PTAN was founded in 1921 and is one of the oldest law firms in Switzerland, with a firmly established reputation both locally and on an international level.

PTAN has deliberately chosen not to grow too large: it is large enough to provide a first rate service in all areas of Swiss and international law and yet small enough to maintain a strong client-to-attorney relationship.

All of the firm's lawyers are admitted to practice in the Canton of Geneva and some of them practice in other Swiss cantons. Many of the firm's lawyers have attended Universities abroad (mainly in the US), or have trained in foreign law firms. Several have also worked in the legal department of major private firms. Our primary working languages are French and English, but many of the firm's lawyers are also fluent in Italian, German and Spanish.

PTAN has a broad practice, both local and international, in a wide range of legal areas including banking, commercial, real estate and insurance law, as well as international litigation and arbitration. The firm also has a wide experience in international judicial assistance in criminal matters. Its client base includes both Swiss and non-Swiss individual and corporate clients in Switzerland and abroad. PTAN enjoys a first rate network of Swiss and non-Swiss correspondents, which enables us to seek and provide legal advice from others jurisdictions and/or to coordinate international actions when needed.

PTAN and its partners and associates are members of several organizations
such as : Geneva Bar Association, Swiss Bar Association, Swiss Arbitration
Association (ASA), International Arbitration Institute (IAI),
International Bar Association, Swiss-Italian Chamber of Commerce, etc.

PTAN was founded in 1921 by Paul JACOB, Jean PONCET and Paul MAUNOIR, all three specialised in civil, commercial, real estate and tax law.

Three people have made special mark on the development of PTAN.

First of all Jean PONCET whose legal and political career was brilliant: Conservative member of Parliament for 37 years (from 1924 until his death in 1961), he presided the Cantonal Parliament in 1955. Member of the Geneva Bar Association, Jean PONCET became its President in 1959.

Next Robert TURRETTINI who became a partner in 1950 on his return from a stay in the United States (Harvard Law School). Robert TURRETTINI instigated its international development at a time when many foreign companies, especially American, became established in Geneva. He was also a Conservative member of Parliament.

Finally Dominique PONCET, son of the founder of PTAN, has taken an important part in its development. Partner since 1959, he leads an intense professional life. He has also devoted himself to teaching at the Geneva University of Law for nearly thirty years and has written a number of legal works.
